As our doors have now opened again to our wonderful libraries across the borough, we are excited to be able to share the news that over the last few weeks, with funding from the Principal Towns project, we have been updating their signage. Since opening the Library @ the Lightbox, we have continued to look at how our branch libraries can begin to look and feel inviting for everyone. New signage is the first step towards our commitment to modernising all our libraries across the borough to ensure that their look and the services offered match our Library @ the Lightbox.
With the opening of Library @ The Lightbox in July 2019, we introduced a brand-new design with fun colours and a modern feel. However, many of the branch libraries had old and dated signage, which in some instances have not been updated for a long time. The new signage makes our libraries look smart, consistent and recognisable across the borough.
We are looking forward to people visiting their local library and seeing this fantastic and welcoming new signage.
Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Adults and Communities, said: "We are excited to see the new signage on our libraries. There’s always a warm welcome at all our libraries, but it’s great to have a fresh new look as we come out of this pandemic. We want to ensure our local libraries continue to be places where people can enjoy the best service and participate in the fantastic activities they host.
"I would encourage anyone, as we start to open up again, to pop along to their local library, whether that's to borrow a book, find out what's happening in the local area, or begin to join in new activities."
You can visit them safely, as all our buildings are COVID-19 safe and have the latest social distancing measures in place. To find out more information and for the opening times of your local library, please visit https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/services/libraries/find-a-library/.
