Barnsley Libraries refurbishment begins.

Barnsley Council is pleased to announce that as part of the Barnsley Council Future Library Strategy (2019). The first library to benefit from the scheme will be Dodworth Library.

As part of the programme, residents, local groups and partners will be asked to provide their feedback on the design and requirement of each library within their area to determine the needs going forward.

The project provides an exciting opportunity for Barnsley’s Library Service, following the excellent work at the Lightbox in the town centre. The refurbishment plans will allow each Library to tailor their offer to the needs of the community, making the space vibrant, digital, flexible and most importantly adapted for the community in which it is based.
A series of workshops will be taking place for residents to engage in discussions around the upgrade and provide their feedback.

Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our Barnsley Libraries to tailor their spaces to suit the needs of our residents.

“I would encourage residents to provide their feedback within their areas to make sure we create an innovative space that is utilised by our communities”.
