Barnsley Pings back into action this summer

Ping! Barnsley is back for a third summer running and this year it’s bigger and better than ever!  The free street table tennis festival will launch on Saturday 9 June and will see over 17 ping pong tables springing up across some of Barnsley’s prime locations from the Better Barnsley Shop, Alhambra shopping centre, and Central Library to Cannon Hall and Elsecar Park.

Ping! Barnsley is delivered by Table Tennis England and is funded by Sports England, meaning It is completely free to use, people can just grab the bats and balls provided, find a willing opponent and get playing!

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place said: “We hope to see people of all ages enjoying this year’s Ping! festival. Over 9,000 people joined in last year and this summer we want even more people to discover how much fun the game is.

“Playing table tennis is a great way to stay active and with 17 tables located throughout Barnsley this summer, there are even more places to join in the fun. Many of this years’ locations will get to keep their table once the festival is over so that local people can continue playing for free.”

As well as free play, fun activities, masterclasses and competitions will be held in the Better Barnsley Shop throughout the festival, please check the website for details and opening times. Other activities will also be taking place throughout the borough including ’Bat and Chat‘ sessions with Age UK Barnsley.
