Barnsley students receive A-Level results

Students across Barnsley have been receiving their A-Level results today.

As exams were cancelled because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, students have been given a calculated grade which takes into account a range of evidence, including non-exam assessment and mock exam results.

Penistone Grammar School and Barnsley Sixth Form College will be announcing their results in due course.

Cllr Margaret Bruff, Cabinet spokesperson for Children's Services, said: “This has been a year unlike any other and it's understandable that young people and their families will have been feeling more anxious than usual about A-Level results day.

”There is lots of support and advice available for those unsure of their next steps, especially where results may not be what was expected.

“For example, if you want to go to university but have not yet secured a place, the UCAS website, www.ucas.com, will guide you through finding a place in clearing.

“If you would like to explore other options to university, www.notgoingtouni.co.uk has a wealth of information on other pathways.

“There is also support available for anyone who is worried or anxious about their results. Childline, for example, have a dedicated webpage for those receiving their exam results this month which can be found on their website, www.childline.org.uk.

“On behalf of Barnsley Council, I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations to all students at this important milestone in their learning and development. Credit must also go to the staff who have supported their learning.

“If students are meeting up with friends to celebrate their results, I would encourage them to follow relevant public health guidance relating to coronavirus,  helping to stay safe by wearing a face covering and maintaining  social distancing at all times.”
