Two Barnsley charities have benefitted from an exceptional 12 months of fundraising by Cllr Steve Green, during his mayoral year.
Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support (BIADS) and Barnsley Hospice have received a cheque each for £12,675.97 – a split of the £25,351.94 grand total.
It’s the largest amount raised during a mayoral year after a fantastic effort from Cllr Green with events such as charity auctions, the Mayor’s Ball, karaoke nights and quiz nights filling up the coffers.
Cllr Green said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their support, including Barnsley residents, council staff and councillors, Berneslai Homes, NPS and the Royal British Legion.
“People know the great work done by both charities and gave generously during my term as Mayor of Barnsley. It’s really nice to be able to hand over such sizeable amounts of money. We set our target at £20,000 and smashed it!”
