Tennis fans are in for a treat when a big screen lands outside the town hall just in time for the Wimbledon finals on Mayor’s Parade weekend.
The large pop-up screen will show live coverage of both the women’s and men’s singles finals on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July, as Barnsley is gripped by Wimbledon fever.
There’ll be seating for spectators to relax and enjoy the action – while town centre businesses will be on hand to provide food and drinks throughout.
Crowds will be in for another serving of big screen entertainment as popular Disney movies are shown before the tennis swings into action.
The force may not have been with Andy Murray as he was forced out of Wimbledon through injury last week – but it will be in Barnsley when the latest episode of the popular Star Wars franchise is screened to audiences.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be shown on Saturday 14 to celebrate the last weekend of Experience Barnsley’s ‘May the toys be with you’ exhibition, which showcases a collection of memorabilia from the movies.
Meanwhile, there will also be a showing of critically-acclaimed family hit Moana on Sunday 15.
Check Love Barnsley Town Centre on Facebook for showing times and terms and conditions of entry.
Don’t forget that the annual Lord Mayor’s Parade takes place on Saturday 14 July, with a new route through the town centre.
This year’s theme is volunteering, and there’s still time to get involved. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form.
Mayor’s Parade weekend will also see the return of the Virtual Barnsley experience.
The Virtual Reality tour transports you into the future, giving you a glimpse of what the town centre will look like after the completed £130m regeneration. It allows you to explore The Glass Works, tour the new Barnsley Market, take a look at where the new Cineworld and Library @The Lightbox will stand and walk over Market Gate bridge.
