Cabinet members to receive the latest Care4Us Council annual report

At their next meeting on Wednesday 22 September, cabinet members will discuss the latest annual report of the Care4Us Council. The annual report sets out their achievements throughout the last year and priorities and objectives for 2021/22. Cabinet members will also be presented with an accompanying Care4Us Council annual report video.

The Care4Us Council regularly meets to have their say on issues that affect their lives. They provide insight into the views of children in care and care leavers. Despite the COVID pandemic, they have still managed to meet virtually and through socially distanced group sessions.

Some of their achievements this year include:

  • Refreshing the Barnsley Pledge to children and young people in care
  • Their Change in Language video has been shared far and wide, including at the National Conference for the Fostering Network
  • Contributed to our Barnsley 2030 plan
  • Worked with the Youth Council, SEND Youth Forum and the Police to improve relationships between young people and community police officers
  • Supported on the Youth Council’s 4Ts Urban Tree project
  • A Q&A session with Barnsley’s four MPs
  • Getting involved in the recruitment process for the new service director for Children’s social care

Cllr Trevor Cave, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said: “One of the priorities of our Children and Young People’s Plan is to engage with our young people and champion their voices. The Care4Us Council continues to play a valuable role in providing a voice to children in care. Thanks to this group, we’ve been able to improve services for all children in care in Barnsley.

“This annual report is testament to all their hard work, and we’re excited to see what this group of brilliant young people achieve in the years to come.”
