Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Barnsley’s first Mayor

This week marked the 150th anniversary of the first Mayor of Barnsley, Henry Richardson.

Henry, a prominent figure in Barnsley’s linen industry, became mayor at 11am, on 10 September 1869.

Current Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Pauline Markham, said: “Being the 150th Mayor of Barnsley is a great honour and it’s been very interesting to find out a bit more about our first ever Mayor Henry Richardson.

“I’m so proud to be Barnsley’s 150th first citizen, representing and promoting our beautiful borough.”
