Barnsley Council is reminding all residents to check their bin days to make sure they are prepared for changes over the Christmas period.
Bins that would have been due for collection on Christmas Day and New Year's Day will be rescheduled and in many cases will be collected earlier. Changes to collections on these dates will be on residents’ current bin calendars and can be viewed at barnsley.gov.uk/waste. It's important residents check their calendars well before their scheduled collection day so that they do not miss the changes, especially earlier collections.
Cllr Chris Lamb, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Environment and Transportation), said: "We understand how celebrations at this time of year can create more waste than usual. To help keep the borough clean and green, we're encouraging residents to be responsible with their festive waste and continue to recycle where possible. Barnsley has already shown that it's fantastic at recycling, but reducing and reusing our waste is important too."
"Our waste and recycling sites based throughout the borough will also be open as normal over the festive period (apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day) for any additional waste or recycling.”
Information on what can be recycled over the festive period can be found on the Barnsley Council Facebook and Barnsley Council Twitter pages. There will be reminders of what items belong in each bin and some handy tips on how residents can reuse, reduce and recycle.
