As you might be aware to due to Covid-19 we've made some changes to our Registrar service, in line with government advice about reducing all public contact. The Register Office is now closed for all face to face appointments.
Registering a death
Due to advice from the government about reducing public contact we've suspended all face to face appointments to register a death at the Register Office.
We'll now be registering deaths by telephone appointments and you won't need to phone us to arrange this. We'll be informed by the hospital or GP about the death and they'll send us a copy of the medical certificate. We'll then call you to make the appointment and explain what happens next. If you've already booked an appointment to register a death we'll contact you to arrange a telephone appointment.
We've temporarily removed our online form due to these changes.
Registering a birth
All birth registration appointments are currently suspended until Monday 4 May 2020. We’ll contact anyone who has already booked an appointment to rearrange. This situation will be regularly reviewed in line with any further advice from government and information on our website will be kept up to date.
Weddings and civil partnerships
Currently, no weddings or civil partnerships will take place until the beginning of July. We’re contacting anyone who has a booking between now and the end of June with a view to rearranging your ceremony.
We will be getting in touch with everyone who has a booking that's been affected by these changes. We won’t be accepting any ceremony bookings to take place before Wednesday 1 July 2020, either online or over the phone. You'll still be able to use our online form to book a ceremony from Wednesday 1 July onwards, but this may be subject to change following government advice about COVID-19.
Cllr Gardiner, Cabinet Spokesperson for Core, said: “We will continue to support our residents with their Registration needs online and over the phone within the limits of government advice during this emergency situation.
"We urge residents to read the information on our website before calling us as our phone lines are very busy. We are contacting everyone who has a booking and has been affected by these changes to offer advice and guidance to rearrange."
