Christmas at the Town Hall – you’re all invited!

The countdown is on to this years annual Christmas at the Town Hall event where Barnsley Council will be hosting a free extravaganza of festive fun for all the family. The doors will be opened to the iconic town hall on Saturday 1 December between 10am and 3pm and you’re all invited!

Santa will be joining in the fun and is already looking forward to meeting families throughout the day. This year, a booking system was introduced to meet Santa but due to popular demand, spaces filled up in record time and all time slots are now full – he’s a very popular man! But not one to disappoint, Santa has promised to bring enough gifts for every child that attends the event – providing they’re on his 'good' list of course. Families who were lucky enough to book a space are reminded to bring with them their ticket or email as proof of booking.

Although Santa is a very popular attraction and he’s disappointed that he can’t meet everyone in his grotto, he’d like to urge families to come along and enjoy all the other fabulous festive activities on offer throughout the day. Here’s a festive flavour of the fun and treats in store:

  • Join the elves in their Elf Workshop and take part in lots of exciting elf activities
  • Decorate Christmas cookies with sponsor Barnsley Norse…and then enjoy eating them of course!
  • Kick start your Christmas shopping at one of the homemade craft stalls
  • Enjoy a mince pie or two whilst enjoying festive music and entertainment
  • Get creative and have fun with the Christmas crafts and activities

Guests can look forward to meeting the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Steve Green who will be giving children (and adults) the opportunity to dress up as him in the iconic mayoral robe and chains. They’ll then be invited to take a seat in the Council Chambers where important decisions are made.

Residents will also have the opportunity to chat to local council members, ask questions and find out about life as a councillor. There will also be a number of council services at the event to share information about the range of services provided by the council and what else the council can do to help residents and their families.

After the event, there’s no need to head home, residents are encouraged to continue festivities with a bit of Christmas shopping and then enjoy the finale of Barnsley’s Christmas Bright Nights event which will begin at 5pm. The event will transform the town centre into a winter wonderland with a spectacular digital projection transforming the iconic town hall into a festive themed show.
