Barnsley Council and Santa’s little helpers are busy making fnal preparations for this years Christmas at the Town Hall – an extravaganza of festive fun for all the family. This years annual event will take place on Saturday 1 December between 10am and 3pm where Santa will be waiting to welcome residents to Barnsley’s iconic town hall.
The town hall will be bursting to the brim with festive activities, crafts and treats with something for all the family to enjoy. One of the most anticipated attractions will no doubt be the man in red himself - Father Christmas of course, along with Mrs Christmas and their elves who will be eagerly waiting in their grotto to meet the children of Barnsley. They’ll also be handing out gifts to all the children on his good list. Due to the popularity of Father Christmas, to avoid long waiting times and to make sure Mr and Mrs Christmas get a break to feed the reindeers - booking will be essential this year with a number of time slots available throughout the day.
As well as the man himself, there will be plenty of other activities on the go throughout the day. Here’s a festive flavour of the fun and treats in store:
- Join the elves in their Elf Workshop and take part in lots of exciting elf activities
- Decorate Christmas cookies with sponsor Barnsley Norse…and then enjoy eating them of course!
- Kick start your Christmas shopping at one of the homemade craft stalls
- Enjoy a mince pie or two whilst enjoying festive music and entertainment
- Get creative and have fun with the Christmas crafts and activities
Guests can look forward to meeting the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Steve Green who will be giving children (and adults) the opportunity to dress up as him in the iconic mayoral robe and chains. They’ll then be invited to take a seat in the Council Chambers where important decisions are made.
Residents will also have the opportunity to chat to local council members, ask questions and find out about life as a councillor. There will also be a number of council services at the event to share information about the range of services provided by the council and what else the council can do to help residents and their families.
Speaking on behalf of the organising working group, Cllr Sharon Howard said: “We’re really excited to be bringing Christmas to the Town Hall again this year. The event was an astounding success last year and it was wonderful to see so many residents in the town hall. We are taking a number of steps to make the event even better this year by inviting residents to book a slot to see Santa. There will be slots available throughout the day so guests can book a slot that suits them and their family. We’re hoping that this will reduce queing times so residents can enjoy all the other fantastic things on offer. Whether you’re one or 101, there will be something for everyone – we look forward to seeing you and your families on the day.”
