From Monday 9 to Sunday 22 May, we’re supporting the Fostering Network's annual Foster Care Fortnight campaign. On Wednesday 11 May, members of our fostering team and foster carers are coming together to take part in the annual Fostering Network’s Foster Walk.
This year's theme is Fostering Communities. Foster care is at the heart of our community, helping keep children in Barnsley, near the people and places they know and love.
Fostering provides essential care to children and young people in our communities, and we are so grateful for all our foster carers and families in our borough. We want to celebrate the strength and resilience of our fostering communities, who do all they can to make sure children are cared for and supported to thrive.
On Wednesday 11 May, the team will be walking around Barnsley town centre, towards Locke Park, and back. This walk will raise awareness of the vital work that they do every day for the children of Barnsley. If you’ve ever considered fostering, why not come and join us? You can have a casual chat with one of our friendly fostering team members to learn more about the fostering process.
Cllr Trevor Cave, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children's Services, said: "We're so pleased that yet again we are celebrating and recognising this annual event. When faced with uncertainty, it’s vital that Barnsley children stay in a community that they know, and this is only possible when brilliant people in Barnsley step forward to foster.
"If you’ve got room in your home and heart, you can foster – don't discount yourself! There’s high-level support and training available. Why not speak to our friendly team today who can talk you through the process and answer any questions you may have? Visit barnsley.gov.uk/fostering or call 01226 775876."
You will also be able to speak to members of our fostering team at the upcoming food festival in our town centre on Thursday 19 May.
