Barnsley Council is celebrating Big Energy Saving Week by reminding households about how they can save money on energy bills. The national campaign aims to help people cut their energy bills and raise awareness about the financial support available.
A dedicated team will be at stall 20 in Barnsley Markets on Friday 24 January to mark the occasion. They’ll be giving advice on how to stay warm at home and sharing their top tips about saving money on energy bills. The team will also be hosting an energy saving event in Wombwell Library from 10am to 12pm on Friday 24 January.
Residents are reminded that they can access local support from the council’s Warm Homes and Hospital Discharge team who help residents with their energy bills. This includes applying for energy bill discounts for low-income households, advising how to change energy suppliers and how improving home energy efficiency can save money. The council’s energy efficiency scheme, Better Homes Barnsley, can also help lower energy bills by providing insulation and boiler replacements. The scheme is open to homeowners and private tenants, and grants are available to those on low incomes and people with health conditions made worse by the cold. Better Homes Barnsley offers first-time gas central heating systems to eligible homeowners for free, or at a cost of just £750 for landlords with eligible tenants. Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “We’re committed to helping vulnerable residents to keep warm this winter, so we’re going out into the community to spread the word about the support available to help them save money and find out what financial support they’re entitled to.
“We’ve already seen the benefits that these schemes have brought to people’s lives, so I would encourage everyone to attend these dedicated events to find out more.”
