Two projects called ‘Pathways to Success’ and ‘Pathways to Progression’ have been offered European funding of £1.3 million from the European Social Fund (ESF). Cabinet members today agreed to accept the grant to help get unemployed residents back into work.
The funding is divided between the two projects which will provide support to review individuals’ personal goals, helping them to progress towards or into education, employment or training. Examples of activities which will be on offer include foundation skills, confidence in English and maths, vocational skills, apprenticeships and work placements.
The grant supports the Council’s More and Better Jobs Plan which is already helping local people to
- Get ready for work
- Get into work
- Get on (and stay in) work
The projects also link directly to Barnsley councils priorities:
- to create more and better jobs and good business growth
- to increase skills to get more people working.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “We are working closely with partners like Job Centre Plus and other local agencies to help Barnsley’s young people and adults to achieve their potential.
“The funding is great news for the borough and will support the programmes we already have in place to help give residents the confidence and skills they need to gain and secure employment, now and in the future.”
Sheffield City Council has led on the funding application from ESF on behalf of all four South Yorkshire authorities.
