DadPad - the essential guide for new dads and “appy” babies

Dads living in Barnsley can now benefit from a new app, DadPad, that provides practical advice on how they can support themselves, their partner and their baby, giving their child the best start in life.

Developed with the NHS and real-life dads, the app has now been made available in Barnsley. it provides information and support to new dads as they adjust to their role and provides guidance on how they can get the most out of this new experience.

The app covers topics such as:

  • Feeding, holding and changing your baby.
  • How to survive without sleep
  • What to do when the crying won’t stop.
  • Safer sleeping.
  • Home safety and first aid.
  • How best to look after yourself and partner.

Building a strong attachment enables dads to better enjoy their new role and contributes towards positive long-term social, health and educational outcomes for their babies.

Emotional health and wellbeing issues can arise during pregnancy and in the period following the birth of a baby in both mum and dad. For this reason, the app also provides information on key behavioural changes for dad to look out for in both himself and his partner. it also includes guidance on where to go to seek support.

Julia Burrows, Director for Public Health and Communities, said: “It’s brilliant to see the broad range of support available to new parents is continually growing in our borough, supporting families to navigate this new chapter in their lives.

“This invaluable app provides dads with information on a range of topics and local support groups. It gives them the skills and knowledge they need to feel confident in their role as a new parent.

“If you're a new dad or soon to be a new dad, I strongly encourage you to download the app. You can then take a look at all the brilliant resources available locally to support you and your family."

The DadPad app is available for free download. Simply enter the search term ‘DadPad’ into the app store or Google Play for your phone/tablet and download.
