Dodworth Library will be closing its doors on Tuesday, 17 January 2023, to allow for the full refurbishment works to take place and is likely to stay closed until April 2023.
The refurbishment will include upgrades to the heating system, lighting, and digital infrastructure to make the building more sustainable and future-proof. It will also create a modern and flexible space for the local community.
During the closure, Barnsley Libraries will provide a once-weekly collection and returns service from the Central Co-op Food store on the High Street (this service is currently unavailable and will be coming soon). They will also be accepting extra people to the Home Library Service for those who need it temporarily and cannot get to any other library in the area. The closest alternative libraries are the Library @ the Lightbox in the town centre and Penistone Library.
Julia Burrows, Executive Director for Public Health and Communities, said: "It's exciting times for Dodworth Library which will see a significant improvement once the refurbishment is complete.
"We know that local residents will benefit from these updated facilities, and we cannot wait for you to see what we have got planned for Dodworth Library."
A display of the plans can be viewed at the library, and if you've got any questions or would like to find more information about accessing service during the closure, please contact our libraries service at barnsleylibraryenquiries@barnsley.gov.uk.
Dodworth Library refurbishment is funded by the Arts Council England grant of £144,375 and is part of our Libraries Refurbishment Programme.
