Elsecar Park has added another accolade to its name after being announced as one of the country’s favourite green spaces.
The park has once again picked up the prestigious title of ‘Nation’s Favourite Park’ along with ten other finalists from across the UK. The award, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, aims to find the best Green Flag parks in the UK – a status given to exceptionally high-quality green public spaces.
Elsecar Park retained the Green Flag earlier this year for the eleventh time and was up against more than 1,883 UK parks and green spaces pick up this latest award. To celebrate all ten finalists will receive a banner to display in recognition of their fantastic achievement.
Friends of Elsecar Park said: “This is absolutely brilliant news and well deserved. The park is a lovely place regardless of season and those involved work hard to maintain and enhance its facilities offering something for anyone that visits.”
The announcement is the latest in awards for Elsecar Park, which is a favourite spot for visitors who use the space as a place for healthy recreation, sports, play and relaxation. The park boasts over 18 hectares which include a reservoir, nature reserve, cafe, golf course, play area and recently introduced children’s cycle hire scheme and cycle track.
Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “It’s wonderful to see Elsecar Park recognised as a national favourite. It really is a beautiful park and a testament to the hard work of our staff and volunteers who help to maintain its beautiful surroundings. A huge thank you to everyone who voted for the park to make sure it’s recognised as one of the best.”
