Febru-welly is returning to Barnsley for the third year to encourage families across the borough to stay active this month, no matter the weather. The initiative started in 2021 and is part of the wider What’s Your Move campaign, encouraging all people across Barnsley to move more for good mental and physical health. Back then, meeting outdoors was the only option, which taught us to appreciate and enjoy the nature surrounding us.
Like the last two years, everyone is also invited to participate and join an online competition by sharing their pictures in three categories on Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtag #BarnsleySplash. The categories are – the biggest splash, the best-looking wellies, and the muddiest wellies. The winners will be selected and announced in early March, and the authors of the best pictures will win some great prizes.
Cllr James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: “Staying active is great for your physical and mental wellbeing and it’s never too late to decide to get fit.
“We’re really pleased to be running the Febru-welly campaign once again, building on the huge success of the last two years.
“We’ve got incredible countryside, parks and the nationally significant Trans Pennine Trail right here on our doorstep in Barnsley – you can make the most of the great outdoors, wherever you live.”
