Funfairs given permission to operate from 12 April

Funfairs will be permitted to operate from 12 April as per the Government’s road map guidance.

The government has classified funfairs in the same category as attractions and non-essential shops and services.

Barnsley Council has received a number of applications with locations and dates to be confirmed.

Permission will be granted subject to the operational areas being enclosed (fenced) and that the operators can demonstrate through documentation Covid safe and secure mitigations which meet a number of strict criteria.

Members of Barnsley Safety Advisory Group (SAG) will check through each application and every item will have to be ticked off before permission is granted. Advice, support and guidance will be given where needed.

Officers from the council’s Regulatory Services, Parks and the Events Team will also make a visit to the sites prior to opening to ensure compliance.

Permission will be given on the understanding and acknowledgement of the landowner/Barnsley Council’s right to cancel bookings or withdraw permission at any time in response to Public Health protection.
