Get creative at the Great Barnsley Bunt Off!

With the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire drawing closer, Barnsley’s first event to dress the town blue and yellow is here. The first Great Barnsley Bunt Off is being held at The Core, County Way on Thursday 15 February.

From 2pm to 8pm, everyone is invited to come along to have fun and get creative. Whether it’s making bunting or creating other fun decorations to make Barnsley a sea of blue and yellow ready for the race on Friday 4th May.

At the event, there will be plenty of entertainment with live music, and refreshments and people may come and go as they please.

Cllr Dave Leech, Cycling Champion for Barnsley, said: “With Barnsley hosting the race on Star Wars day, we’re really looking forward to seeing what creative and inspired ideas people can come up with to dress our town.

“We need as many people as possible to come down, whether it’s for dressing your house, street, school, business or community centre, we encourage as many as possible to get stuck in and have some fun with it.”

“We’ve had the race come through our borough on a couple of occasions and everybody has really gone all out on decorations and it’s paid off. Penistone last year stood out on the route for its creativity and colour. As hosts for this year’s event, we’d love for Barnsley to be seen as the best-dressed town on the tour, but we need your help.”

Other ‘Bunt Off’ events have been planned in Elsecar on Saturday 17 February at The Ironworks, Elsecar Heritage Centre, 11am to 4pm and at Penistone on Friday 23 March at Penistone Town Hall.

For those unable to attend any of the events or looking to set up their own community ‘Bunt off’, the council’s Tour de Yorkshire team has created an activity pack which includes everything you’ll need to organise your own creative event.
