Great response to Best Bar None People’s Choice Award

Over 2,100 people have voted for their favourite town centre venue, as part of Barnsley Council’s Best Bar None People’s Choice Award.

Best Bar None is a voluntary accreditation scheme recognising excellence in Barnsley’s nightlife and accredited venues show that they are serious about safety and service.

The eligible accredited town centre pubs, clubs and restaurants in the running for the award, which will be announced at an event later in the year are:

00 Bar, Annie Murray’s, Che Bar, Corner Pin, Digital, Joseph Bramah, Shakespeare, Silkstone Inn, The Open Kitchen, Zinc, Soul Lounge, Favela, VOLT, Aroma Café/Bar, Chennells, White Bear, Temple of Muses, Metrodome, Pavilion, Passion Foods, The Garrison, and  Pourhouse 22.

Barnsley Public Health officers, assisted by other council colleagues, have been busy assessing pubs, clubs and eateries throughout the town centre as part of this year’s accreditation.

There are now 22 accredited venues – an increase of 60 per cent on last year, which is testament to the commitment of town centre establishments in raising the bar for a great, safe night out in Barnsley.

As well as the People’s Choice award, accolades will be given for best late-night venue, best newcomer, best dining experience, most improved, best bar, and overall winner.

Cllr Jim Andrews, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health, said: “Best Bar None is an important part of our strategy to create a fantastic evening and night time economy in the town centre.

“The People’s Choice Award gives Barnsley residents who use our night time economy the chance to vote for their favourite venue in the town centre.  All 22 venues who have been accredited as a Best Bar None venue were nominated for this award and votes were gathered through an online survey that was circulated widely.

Thank you to all the venues who are represented in the People’s Choice category and for taking the time to be part of the Best Bar None scheme as a whole, this demonstrates your commitment to working with us to reduce crime, and to raise standards.”
