Ground investigation works to begin at Penny Pie Park

Abbeydale Building Environment Consultants will be carrying out ground investigation works at Penny Pie Park on 5, 6 and 7 November, on behalf of Barnsley Council.

This is to understand the detailed ground conditions at the park as part of the proposed A628 Dodworth Road/Pogmoor Road highway scheme that has been submitted to planning for consideration.

The findings will also answer enquiries raised by local councillors and the public.

Specialist equipment will be used to install monitoring pipes and will make a number of pits and bore holes into the ground, which had formerly been used for a number of purposes, including mining, brickworks, domestic waste landfill and in later years, a recreation area.

The park will still be open to the public during this time, although the investigation areas will be cordoned off for safety.

The investigation sites will be restored once complete, and the contractor will return to site the following week to top up any areas that may have settled.
