GXO and Barnsley Premier Leisure score gold!

GXO Barnsley and Barnsley Premier Leisure (BPL) have been awarded the South Yorkshire Be Well @ Work Gold Award.

The Be Well @ Work Award provides a framework for a business to build good workplace health and wellbeing practices. The award covers a range of topics, including human resources, health and safety, mental health, training and communication.

GXO started developing their health and wellbeing programme eight years ago and has gone from strength to strength in embedding health and wellbeing best practices across the organisation's culture.

GXO’s ASOS Barnsley statement, said: "We're delighted to have maintained our Gold Be Well @ Work Award since 2019. We're proud of our unique health and wellbeing offer that differentiates GXO Barnsley site. The award is a testimony to our steadfast commitment to maintaining our position as an employer of choice in Barnsley. It's important that all GXO colleagues can grow, excel and progress at work, and we've seen the significant impact our culture of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging has had on the job satisfaction levels of our team."

Barnsley Premier Leisure first achieved the Silver Award in 2019 and has continued its journey to improve employee health and wellbeing since then. The pandemic offered many challenges for their staff. BPL delivered a range of support which kept their staff connected and focused on supporting the health and wellbeing of them and their families.

Ronnie Erskine, Human Resources Manager for BPL, said: “It’s been a great journey to work towards the Gold Award. We’re proud to have been able to achieve this and have some great examples of how a focus on employee health and wellbeing has impacted our organisation. Some of the highlights for us was implementing our award-winning ‘Stay Connected’ campaign, which is a fitting example of how health and wellbeing helped us to support staff and keep up morale.”

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: "The Be Well @ Work Award provides recognition for good health and wellbeing practices in businesses. It's wonderful to hear that GXO and BPL, and, most importantly, their employees, have benefitted from the programme. In today’s world, people are deciding to work with employers who really care about supporting their health and wellbeing, this helps make GXO and BP employers of choice for many people. I would encourage businesses and organisations of all sizes to see what's possible with the opportunities the programme provides."
