Help and support for businesses in Goldthorpe area

A free breakfast event is being held in Goldthorpe so that local business owners, staff members and the self-employed can find out more about the Towns Fund.

Barnsley Council is driving investment in our six Principal Towns and ten Local Centres to help them thrive, and attracting other funding for local high streets across the borough.

As part of that drive, and through working with the Goldthorpe Town Deal Board, we’ve secured more than £23.1m investment in Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe and Bolton upon Dearne through the Towns Fund. This is funding a range of projects which will help attract jobs and economic investment to the area, improve the local street scene, improve local housing and develop better transport links.

The event on Friday 16 December will be a chance for the local business community in the area to find out more about the Towns Fund. It will also be a chance to find out about the variety of other support available in the local area.

The event is open to anyone who either owns or works for a local business, or is thinking about starting a business.

Derek Bramham, chairperson of the Goldthorpe Town Deal Board, said: “The Towns Fund is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. This is a chance for the local business community to find out more about it.

“We’re investing so that businesses and jobs, stay here, and want to move here. More of our young people will want to stay here too. We want to work closely with our local business community to make sure they can be a part of this opportunity, making sure we all get the maximum benefit out of this transformational investment.

“Whether you’re a major employer, or you work in a local shop, or you run a business from your back bedroom, we want to hear from you.”

John Healey, MP for Wentworth and Dearne is a member of the Goldthorpe Town Deal Board and will be opening the event. He said: “This is a big event for local Dearne businesses, who can find out more about our Towns Fund plans and the full range of Barnsley’s business support direct from the agencies that provide it.

“I’m proud to serve on the Towns Fund Board which has secured this national funding for local economic investment and jobs in Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe and Bolton-upon-Dearne.

“I’d strongly encourage local business owners and self-employed people across the Dearne to come along on the 16th to find out more – and enjoy the breakfast!”

The event is being held early and in the local area so you can attend and still make it to work before 9am.

Please come along to Goldthorpe Parish Hall, Lockwood Road, S63 9JY. It'll be from 7.45am to 8.30am on Friday 16 December.

A free breakfast will be provided. If you plan to attend, please let us know by emailing townsfundgoldthorpe@barnsley.gov.uk.
