Join us later this month for Dodworth Library’s official reopening

It’s great to see local people returning to Dodworth Library and enjoying even more of what they already love about their local library following its refurbishment.

We’re really proud of our greener, more sustainable Dodworth Library, which is why we’re planning a series of exciting events to officially reopen this key hub in our community.

Join us on Tuesday 30 May from 9:30am until 2:30pm for a jam-packed day of family-friendly activities, designed to showcase our enhanced offer in action.

Children of all ages can enjoy free face painting and craft sessions while families explore our modern, flexible and accessible library space.

During your visit, you can also search through the 1921 Census with Barnsley Archives and speak to our Ward Alliances to find out what’s happening in your local area.

We’ll be continuing the festivities throughout the week with more special events:

  • On Thursday 1 June, children can express their creative side at one of our bookable crafts sessions, taking place at 11am and 2:30pm.
  • On Friday 2 June, young children and families can join us in our new children’s library and experience the joy of story and rhyme at 11am.
  • On Saturday 3 June, help your little ones build new friendships and get creative at LEGO Club, taking place in our new-look library space at 10am.

Dodworth Library is the latest community library to see exciting updates to its facilities as part of our Libraries Refurbishment programme, joining Hoyland and Roundhouse.

This programme is enabling us to improve our community libraries, making them even better places to visit and helping our Principal Towns and local high streets to thrive.

You’ll notice some big changes at Dodworth Library, including a vibrant, expanded children’s library, improved digital connectivity and better spaces to work and learn.

We’ve also made major improvements to make the space greener, installing air source heat pumps, new double glazing throughout the building and smart electric lighting.

This project has been made possible by a grant of £144,375 from Arts Council England’s Libraries Improvement Fund supported by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, with additional funding from our Libraries Refurbishment programme.

Julia Burrows, Executive Director for Public Health and Communities, said: “We’re very proud of what our community libraries have to offer, bringing people together to learn new skills, fall in love with reading and express their creative side.

“We’ve been hard at work making Dodworth Library somewhere everyone can enjoy, powered by more sustainable facilities, so it’s been great seeing local people already loving what our new-look library space has to offer. We have lots of exciting events planned for its official reopening, so please come along and see our new-look library in action.

“We’re confident you will love it as much as we do.”

As a National Portfolio Organisation, we will continue to offer exciting cultural events at our community libraries, helping everyone to express their creative side. Find out what’s planned at your local library by visiting Barnsley Libraries events webpage.
