Award-winning Elsecar Park needs your votes to help it become one of the nation’s favourite parks.
The experts have had their say and in July Elsecar Park was given the prestigious Green Flag Award.
The award, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, aims to find the best Green Flag parks in the UK – a status given to exceptionally high-quality green public spaces. Elsecar Park won the Green Flag Award for the eleventh time earlier this year for its excellent green spaces; which include a reservoir, golf course, café, play area and children’s cycle hire scheme.
To be in with a chance of being crowned the winner of the Green Flag People’s Choice Award 2018, Elsecar Park needs as many votes as possible. Voting opens Saturday 1 September and closes Sunday 30 September, with the top 10 sites being announced on Tuesday 16 October.
Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “We are so pleased to see Elsecar park acknowledged once again in these awards. It would be wonderful to see it recognised as a nation’s favourite. It is a beautiful location in our borough and a fantastic example of some amazing work carried out by both staff and volunteers. I’d like to encourage people to take a couple of minutes and vote for it online.”
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Manager, said: This year 1883 parks and green spaces met the tough standards demanded by our Green Flag Award Judges, but we want to know which parks the UK public love the most.
“The People’s Choice award is a chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. If it’s worth shouting about, make your voice heard and vote now.”
All you have to do is go to www.greenflagaward.org find your park on the winner's map and click the voting button. Once you’ve registered your vote, why not encourage others to get involved too through social media using the hashtag #PeoplesChoice.
