Make recycling your goal this World Cup

As part of its #EverybodyThink campaign to protect the environment, Barnsley Council is encouraging residents to recycle more during the summer season.

A combination of warmer weather and major sporting events including the World Cup and Wimbledon means people are likely to use more recyclable glass, cans and plastic bottles as they consume food and drinks at home.

Most people in Barnsley are good at recycling, and regularly recycle using their brown bin. The council is encouraging everyone to sort empty containers especially during and after sporting events, to increase the percentage of glass, metal and plastic that is recycled.

Residents are also reminded to ‘find recycling in every room’, including the bathroom and bedroom which may house cardboard (toothpaste packaging, toilet rolls, boxes), glass (perfume and aftershave bottles) and plastic (cleaning bottles, shampoo and soap bottles, spray bottles).

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “Thank you to everyone who already recycles, helping to protect the environment. Recycling is something that everyone can do at home and it only takes a few minutes to sort into the correct bin. As part of our #EverybodyThink campaign we’ll be sharing hints and tips to help make recycling even easier.”
