Mayor’s Charity Concert welcomes home Grimethorpe Colliery Band

Tickets are now on sale for the Mayor’s annual charity concert featuring the world-renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band on Monday 23 April, 7.30pm. This year’s concert will be held at St Luke’s Parish Church in the bands very own hometown of Grimethorpe.

Grimethorpe Colliery Band is a real British institution boasting performances at the FIFA World Cup, BAFTA Awards, BBC Proms, Eurovision and the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. With numerous national and British Open Championship victories to their name, the band remains legendary. The band has also received two gold discs and a BAFTA nomination for its contributions to the global hit movie “Brassed Off” - of which Grimethorpe was the focal point.

In addition to continuing to delight audiences across the globe, the band continues to invest in and support its local community in Grimethorpe, Barnsley and South Yorkshire. As such, they’re delighted to be performing in their hometown of Barnsley in support of the Mayor’s Charity.

The Mayor, Councillor Jeff Ennis, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming our very own Grimethorpe Colliery Band once again as they perform at our annual charity concert. We’re so incredibly proud of all the band have achieved, and having them treat us to an evening of top class music in Grimethorpe where it all began is a real honour. I can guarantee spectators are in for a spectacular evening of musical entertainment.”

Tickets for the concert cost £12 each, with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s Charity, which this year is supporting the Cure Myeloma Appeal and Barnsley Riding for the Disabled.
