Continuing its programme of building new affordable housing across the borough, Barnsley Council has appointed RJ Cadman Construction Ltd as their building partner to develop fourteen bungalows on the Meadstead Estate in Royston. Working across four sites; this project will provide thirteen two-bedroom and one three-bedroom properties.
The bungalows, built to modern construction standards, will have open plan living areas with French doors to access a patio and rear garden. Energy efficient gas central heating and high levels of insulation will keep running costs low. Level access to the front and rear and wet rooms, makes the new properties particularly suitable for tenants with restricted mobility and will increase the affordable housing offer in this popular area.
The new bungalows, owned by the council and managed by Berneslai Homes, will be ready to let in summer 2019.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place said: “This is one of a number of housing projects taking place across the borough and shows our commitment to providing more and better housing. These bungalows are easily accessible for tenants, providing modern and efficient properties. They will be a welcome addition of more affordable housing in this area. It’s great that we are also able to work with an experienced construction partner from within our region, using local builders.”
