Barnsley Council is inviting feedback from local residents and businesses on a new Transport Strategy for Barnsley.

The Transport Strategy outlines our commitment to improving transport options for every member of our community and to reducing the negative impacts of travel on our borough.

We’re working with our Transport Partners including South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, bus and rail operators, to help people can get around Barnsley easier than ever, with an increase in walking and cycle routes and better connections between workplaces, education, residential areas and our countryside.

The strategy sets out our ambitious plans for improvements over the next ten years, working with our transport Partners, and aligns closely with our 2030 vision to make Barnsley the Place of Possibilities. The strategy also helps us work towards our ambition for a net-zero carbon borough by 2045 through more active travel and green transport solutions.

The strategy outlines the key transport issues and solutions, with a range of ready-to-go projects which will ensure we are ready to grasp funding opportunities as they arise. This helps make sure we are in the strongest position to make sure our transport plans help us achieve our ambitions for a Growing Barnsley with more businesses and more jobs.

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Our borough is a place that fosters and grows ambition, enabling everyone to be the best they can be. “We have a central location, excellent links to major road networks and we’re investing in some major schemes so more businesses and jobs come to Barnsley and stay in Barnsley.

Good transport connections and services are key to people getting to and from work, spending time with friends and family and enjoying all the education, cultural facilities and green spaces the borough has to offer.

The consultation is open now until Sunday 10 July 2022 and will include events in the following locations:

• 16 June, Darton Centre, 9.30am - 4.30pm

• 4 July, Cudworth Library, 9.30am - 6.30pm
