Households, childcare and support bubbles of primary, secondary and college pupils or staff are now able to access rapid lateral flow testing at Barnsley Metrodome.
This is only for people without symptoms and is assisted testing, not a click and collect pick-up site.
About one in three people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms but can still pass it on to others. Regular testing of people without symptoms is important to help stop the virus from spreading and protect your loved ones. As lockdown restrictions gradually ease, we all need to play our part to help protect each other.
More information and the online booking form is at www.barnsley.gov.uk/coronavirus-rapid-test
Barnsley Metrodome testing site is on Queens Road, Barnsley, S71 1AN. Appointments are available between:
- 8.30am to 4.30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
- 8.30am to 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday
Occasionally these may be subject to change; all available booking slots are shown in the online form.
Alternatively, people in this group can collect two packs of home test kits from the following collection points between 1.30pm and 7pm every day:
- Lower Courthouse car park, County Way, Barnsley, S70 2JW
- Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre car park, Cudworth, S72 8LH
- Summer Lane car park, Wombwell, S73 0DD
Each pack contains seven tests and anyone 18 or over can collect without an appointment.
People who cannot get tested at their workplace or are unable to go to a test site or collect test kits, can order a home test kit online.
Please do not order online if you can get a test through other methods. This frees up home delivery for those who need it most.
If anyone tests positive or gets coronavirus symptoms,:
- self-isolate immediately
- get a PCR test to confirm the result
- follow the stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus infection
A negative result means the test did not find signs of COVID-19. But this does not guarantee you do not have COVID-19, so you should keep following all coronavirus advice including:
- regular handwashing
- social distancing
- wearing a face-covering where recommended
If you have COVID-19 symptoms
The most important symptoms of COVID-19 are the recent onset of any of the following:
- a cough that won’t stop
- a high temperature
- things tasting or smelling strange
If you have symptoms of COVID-19, arrange to have a PCR test if you have not already had one. Stay at home while you are waiting for a home self-sampling kit, a test site appointment or a test result.
Please not use the rapid lateral flow testing service as this is only for people without symptoms. Order a test for people with symptoms online or call 119.
