Residents are invited to welcome the new Mayor of Barnsley at Civic Service

The new Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Sarah-Jane Tattersall, would like to invite residents across the borough to join her at a special Civic Service to mark and celebrate the start of her mayoral year 2022-2023. The service will take place on Thursday 16 June, 4pm at St Mary’s Parish Church, Church Street, Barnsley.

The service will be led by Rev Canon Stephen Race, the priest in charge and the Mayor’s Chaplain, Father Peter Needham, will also be present to hold prayers and bless the new mayor. The congregation will enjoy musical performances along with poems delivered by pupils from Athersley North and Athersley South Primary Schools.

The mayor, who will be accompanied by her Consort, Ethan Tattersall, said: “I’m really looking forward to the Civic Service to acknowledge my year in office as the Mayor of Barnsley. The role is an absolute honour and I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to represent my hometown, Barnsley.

“I am really looking forward to meeting residents from across the borough at the service and would love to see as many residents join me as possible. I’m equally looking forward to getting out into our communities, raising money for my mayoral charities and representing the spirit of our communities, as I fulfil my mayoral responsibilities for the borough.”

The service is public and so all residents are welcome to attend without a personal invitation.
