Residents with an interest in fun and unusual days out are encouraged to join the team at the Library @ the Lightbox on Saturday 12 October to meet adventurer and author Peter Naldrett.
At this one-off event, Peter will be discussing his book 'Days Out Underground: 50 Subterranean Adventures Beneath Britain' which explores unusual and intriguing tourist destinations, including caves and nuclear bunkers, sewers and secret railways, abandoned mines, ancient crypts, and labyrinthine tunnels.
As a writer and a teacher based in Sheffield, Peter has used his knowledge and experiences to write a number of books including his current working piece titled 'Around the Coast in 80 Days'. His writing aims to educate readers of the incredible, secret beauty spots we have in Britain and how people can discover them..
Those attending will enjoy an hour of inspiring discussion that will be sure to motivate them to explore the history of our beautiful borough and beyond.
Peter said: "When we want to go on a day out, we're used to heading to museums, theme parks and the seaside. But some of the best things to do in the country are actually beneath your feet!
"When you go underground to places like mines, air raid shelters and cold war bunkers you learn so much about the history of the UK and it's also a lot of fun!"
Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Adults and Communities, said: "I would encourage residents to take this wonderful opportunity to find out more about Peter's work, which may inspire them to write about their interests too.
"Residents can join us in the Library @ the Lightbox to find out about books such as Peter’s as well as many more on offer with a free library card."
The event will take place on Saturday 12 October at 2pm at the Library @ the Lightbox and is free to attend, signed copies of 'Days Out Underground: 50 Subterranean Adventures Beneath Britain' will be available to purchase.
