Roundhouse Library officially reopened with special celebration event

We’ve welcomed local people back to Roundhouse Library at a special opening event, allowing the community to explore our newly refurbished facilities for themselves.

We were joined on Tuesday by the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Sarah-Jane Tattersall, to help us officially reopen Roundhouse Library. We then celebrated with a fun day of activities, giving children and families a chance to see the library’s enhanced offer in action.

Throughout the day, children enjoyed story and rhyme sessions in our vibrant, new children’s area and had a go at making Easter crafts.

As a key hub in our community, we also invited people to take part in mindful colouring while learning more about what our North Area Team has to offer.

Roundhouse Library is the latest of our community libraries to see exciting updates to its facilities, following the successful refurbishment of Hoyland Library last year.

The new-look Roundhouse Library features a more accessible reception, a bright and vibrant children’s area and improved communal spaces, making it easier to work and study.

Following its reopening, we will continue to offer new and exciting activities at Roundhouse Library. These include music sessions as part of our recently launched Biblio Beats Festival, coffee mornings, social clubs and even more fun activities for children and young people.

Julia Burrows, Executive Director for Public Health and Communities, said: “We’re very proud of what our community libraries have to offer, bringing people together to learn new skills, get creative and connect with our borough’s rich culture.

“We want to continue improving our library spaces for our communities, which is why we’re excited to see the newly refurbished Roundhouse Library now open for you to enjoy. It’s been great to see our communities already enjoying what our new-look Roundhouse Library has to offer, and we hope to welcome many more residents through our doors in the future.”

Throughout the day, we helped visitors discover what’s on offer in their local community and become Library members. Joining the library is quick and easy, giving you access to a wide range of books and digital resources.

As work finishes at Roundhouse Library, we’re well underway with exciting updates to Dodworth Library, which should reopen its doors next month. Please keep an eye out on Barnsley Libraries’ social media channels for further updates.
