Sculptures by Graham Ibbeson installed in the Cooper Gallery garden

Two sculptures by Barnsley-born artist, Graham Ibbeson, have been installed in the Cooper Gallery Garden.

The stunning bronze pieces, one of which measures over eight feet high, are a perfect addition to the relaxing setting of the Gallery’s Garden and will be on permanent display.

With a beautiful sun terrace, there are many spots to observe the artwork in a peaceful and tranquil environment.

Unlike many sculptures, people are encouraged to explore one of the artworks, ‘Mothering Ship’, through touch, feeling the material, shapes, and textures.

On display inside the gallery is an exhibition by world-renowned artist Henry Moore exploring his influences over the years, from artists such as Henri Gaudier, Brzeska, and Jacob Epstein to ancient sculptures from Mexico and beyond.

Jon Finch, Head of Culture and Visitor Economy, said: “We are delighted to have artwork of such calibre on display in the Cooper Garden for visitors to enjoy. Graham's sculptures are fascinating, and intriguing, and it is wonderful to appreciate them in such close proximity."

Graham Ibbeson, artist, said: “These 2 bronzes show quite a different aspect of my work. They were made after the birth of my first grandchild 19 years ago, and both sculptures are more about the shape, form, and the rhythm of the work, rather than the narrative. ‘Mothering Ship’ in particular lends itself to being touched, to follow the form, and feel of the sculpture, and I would love for people to interact with this particular piece.’
