Parents and carers are reminded that the closing date for receipt of secondary applications is Tuesday, 31 October and it is extremely important for pupils that applications are received by this date.
For a child to start secondary school in September 2018, there are two ways to apply for a place:
- apply online to transfer a child from primary to secondary school
- complete a paper application form, available either from the child's primary school or from Barnsley Council’s School Admissions service. This can be returned it to the headteacher of the child’s current school or sent to School Admissions, PO Box 634, Barnsley S70 9GG.
It is strongly advised to apply online as there are a number of benefits to this method. The system is easy to use, applicants will receive email acknowledgement of their school preferences and there is no form to take into school unless the application is for a voluntary aided school. There is no risk the application will get lost and the result of any application can be sent by email, which is usually quicker than by post.
More information about the process is available in the Admission to School - Academic Year 2018-19 - Advice to Parents booklet.
