Prepare to see Barnsley in a new light this Christmas thanks to festive activities across the town centre.
With Christmas lights now on and Barnsley’s own Winter Windowland set to light up our high street from 10 December, there’s plenty to see and do while out in town.
Shopping on Saturday 12 December? Take part in our free (and COVID secure!) Glass Works Christmas trail.
Clues will be posted in the windows of JD Sports, Coffee Boy, Deichmann (ready to open on Saturday 5 December) Barnsley Market, Library @ the Lightbox and Falco Lounge. The clues will spell out a Christmas password you can exchange for a Bright Nights at home activity pack at stall 20 – on the ground floor - in Barnsley Market.
While you’re in the market, you’re reminded to spread festive cheer and support Barnsley’s fantastic market traders.
Barnsley Market has everything you need to make the most wonderful time of the year extra special. From the finest food to great gifts, traders in the market are on hand to help make your Christmas a special one. Remember to be smart and stay apart when visiting the market to help keep fellow shoppers and traders safe.
And don’t worry if you can’t visit – bring the market to you. Try our new delivery service through ShopAppy.com/Barnsley, available now. Remember you can also click and collect. And don’t forget about our district markets in Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Wombwell and Penistone, all offering a delightful range of Christmas products.
Our Market Kitchen vendors may not be fully open because of current restrictions, but some are still offering takeaway and delivery services. Get your hands on some tasty festive treats from Hilton’s, Jar Bar, Nero’s Pizza, Rajah and Dolly’s Desserts. Visit Market Kitchen on Facebook for more information.
Looking for the perfect gift? Look no more. Introducing the Barnsley Gift Card.

And finally, it wouldn’t be Christmas without lights.
From Thursday 10 December - Sunday 10 January, businesses and buildings across the town centre will light up for Christmas with illuminating artwork provided by local and regional artists.
There’s also craft packs for the family to do at home and entertainment on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December via Barnsley Council’s Facebook and YouTube channels in the first ever Barnsley Bright Nights Online.
Don’t forget to wish Barnsley a Merry Christmas in the Barnsley Christmas Card. We want to see your photos and videos of decorations, cheesy karaoke efforts and Christmas messages. There’s even Barnsley Gift Cards up-for-grabs for the most creative entries. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to enter.
