The Safer Neighbourhood Service enjoyed success at the South Yorkshire Police Force Awards last week.
The Safer Neighbourhood Service, which is a joint venture between the council and South Yorkshire Police, picked up the Partnership Award in a ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield.
Established in 2016, the Safer Neighbourhood Service brings together a range of services and support which is aimed at supporting people to progress in life and also to create safer neighbourhoods across Barnsley.
The service continues to develop as we saw with the recent launch of Joining Forces, a borough-wide initiative to help provide reassurance and keep residents safe.
The Safer Neighbourhood Service, the council’s Markets Service and Parking Services, and other partners moved into a new base at The Glass Works to deliver a partnership approach from a centralised location at the heart of the town centre redevelopment.
Councillor Jenny Platts, Cabinet spokesperson for Communities, said: "We are thrilled to see the Safer Neighbourhood Service win the Partnership Award.
"We all want Barnsley to be a safer place for people to live, work and visit and we need to ensure we use all of our resources to help us do just that.
"We would like to thank South Yorkshire Police and all of our partners and communities for continuing to support the Safer Neighbourhood service."
A statement from South Yorkshire Police said: “From grassroots level to strategic thinking, this partnership has problem solving at its heart. It demonstrates how, with communication, flexibility and greater understanding of different organisations, we can achieve more.
"The Barnsley Safer Neighbourhood Service has helped to reduce demand around antisocial behaviour and vulnerable residents since 2017.”
