#TakeoverDay is back

Takeover Day returns on Friday 26 November, giving Barnsley's children and young people the chance to work with local businesses across the region.

Since the first Takeover Challenge, hundreds of young people have worked alongside MPs, mayors, TV presenters and more, gaining valuable insight into the world of work. The council has achieved a Gold Commendation from the Children's Commissioner for the work carried out in support of Takeover Day.

This year, the interactive, virtual workshops will cover a wide range of jobs with speakers from organisations such as:

  • Compass (Barnsley Mental Health Support Team)
  • The Designers Republic
  • NHS Careers
  • CAMHS (Barnsley's Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
  • South Yorkshire Police
  • Teams across Barnsley Council, including councillors, children and adult social work, fostering, adoption, recruitment, communications and marketing, and many more.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Barnsley Council's Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture), said: "This is the perfect opportunity for children and young people to gain some valuable experience and insight into the world of work. For businesses, it will be great to engage with and inspire the next generation."

"It's fantastic to see local businesses, organisations and the community coming together, making Barnsley the place of possibilities."
