Six new offers – including a bar - to join traditional cafes and coffee shop in independent food court
Tastes of the world will come to Barnsley when six new businesses open in Market Kitchen – The Glass Works’ independent food court.
Flavours from India, South-eastern Europe, Thailand and Italy will join the three traditional market cafes already operating in Market Kitchen, alongside the recently opened Daddy Beanz Coffee – which roasts its own beans in Barnsley.
Dolly’s Desserts – formerly Ice Queenz on The Victorian Arcade and owned by an existing market trader in Nick Smark – will join Daddy Beanz in mid-October, before four more units – including a fully licensed bar - open for Market Kitchen’s grand opening on Saturday, October 26.
They’ll be followed by a stone-baked pizza outlet in November.
Opening on 26 October, Rajah will rustle up the finest Indian cuisine, including a range of curries, appetisers and sundries.
Joining Rajah will be Khao Niew –an already established business on Sheffield Road – which will offer your favourite flavours from Thailand.
Completing the line-up, Jar Bar will bring flavours of the Balkan Peninsula to Barnsley. Jar Bar's menu will be full of grilled meats and salads as it brings cuisine from South-eastern Europe to Barnsley’s food and drink scene.
Two more food offers will be announced for Market Kitchen in the coming weeks.
The space is set to be completely refurbished, with a mix of seating, furniture and modern decoration transforming Market Kitchen into the go-to place in Barnsley town centre.
It will house 12 businesses in total, including the three traditional market cafes, Paul’s Place, Hilton’s Café and Kay’s Café, which are already open.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “It’s an exciting time in Barnsley as we edge towards the completion of The Glass Works in 2021, and these new businesses joining our fantastic cafes in Market Kitchen is another key milestone for the project.
“We’re excited that the new businesses will bring something completely different to our town centre. They will make Market Kitchen a unique offer and make it the ideal location to eat, drink, socialise and unwind.”
An official opening will take place on Saturday, 26 October. Follow Market Kitchen Barnsley on Facebook alongside the hashtag #MeetandEat for more information.
