A brand new way of working together to make Barnsley a great place to live, work, invest and visit was officially launched this week.
Town Spirit will bring Barnsley Council, partner organisations, businesses, residents and communities together achieve more than ever before and continue to build a brighter future, a better Barnsley.
Made up of eight key themes – Build it, Love it, Achieve it, Change it, Develop it, Protect it, Live it, and Imagine it, the aim of Town Spirit is to tell stories and showcase the ambitions for all of Barnsley’s towns and communities.
Town Spirit will show businesses how the work of the council and other partners fits together – helping to remove the barriers so people can see the links between services they receive.
Diana Terris, Chief Executive of Barnsley Council, said: “Town Spirit gives us a clear way of sharing our work with our communities and residents. It doesn’t show the organisations, teams or structures, just the outcomes of the hard work taking place right across the borough.
“Town Spirit isn’t just to promote council services – that simply wouldn’t work. The only way we’re going to build thriving communities is if we all work together.
“We really want to encourage everyone to own it; play their part, help create solutions and encourage new ways of doing things and make changes through communities coming together.”
Gill Stansfield, Deputy District Director for South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I’m really privileged to work in Barnsley and I ‘own it’ by helping people improve their health and supporting those who are ill in their homes and communities.”
Scott Green, Chief Superintendent and Barnsley District Commander - South Yorkshire Police, said: “I contribute to Town Spirit by leading a team of officers, staff and volunteers who work together to collectively keep people of Barnsley safe.”
A film where people can take a virtual journey through the Town Spirit themes showcases how our work fits together and how we can continue to make Barnsley a better place barnsley.gov.uk/TownSpirit.
