The Barnsley Walking Festival returns!

The Barnsley Walking Festival is back for 2023 with more than 200 activities on offer for you to get active with as part of Barnsley’s What’s Your Move Campaign.

The festival, which will be running from Monday 1 May to Wednesday 31 May, is an opportunity for people to be outdoors and walk more by joining in with a month-long programme of organised walking activities from friendly walking groups to walking sports - there's something for everyone.

As well as helping you to rack up those active minutes, the activities also provide an opportunity to meet new people or, if you prefer, just take some friends or family on a walk in your local area. There are plenty of ways to get involved and every minute counts!

Julia Burrows, Director of Public Health, said: "Walking has several benefits for your physical and mental health and is one of the easiest ways to include physical activity in your daily life, so it's fantastic to see the Barnsley Walking Festival return once again.

"It has a diverse offer of activities, providing something to meet all interests and needs and is a great way to discover some of the many amazing places around the borough, including our parks, heritage sites and the fabulous Trans Pennine Trail.

"A lot of the groups and organisations involved in the festival run free walks all year round, so find the one that suits you and join in our celebration of walking this May and beyond."

During the Barnsley Walking Festival, we encourage everyone to share pictures of their walks with us on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #WhatsYourMove.
