The force is strong in Barnsley this weekend with the opening of Experience Barnsley’s latest exhibition May The Toys Be With You.
May The Toys Be With You will bring the magic of Star Wars to the heart of Barnsley until Saturday 15 July 2018. Opening in Yorkshire for the very first time, Barnsley will be the only place in the region to give fans the chance to view the country’s finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and original cinema posters.
The exhibition is both a celebration of the now highly collectable vintage toy line and also of the iconic design work and art of the Star Wars movies. From X-Wing Fighters to lightsabers, these fantastical designs have fired our imaginations and stamped their place on our cultural landscape. For little kids and ‘big kids’ alike, this is an unmissable opportunity to view many rarely seen Star Wars treasures.
Join Experience Barnsley for the opening weekend, where the incredible UK Garrison will be marking the official opening of the exhibition on Saturday 21 April. Stormtroopers, Darth Vader and a TIE Fighter Pilot, will be on parade around Barnsley’s iconic Town Hall. There will also be activities for the whole family to take part in and young Jedi will have the opportunity to dress up and wield a lightsabre themselves!
Matt Fox, the collector and owner of the truly special memorabilia, will be holding two presentations at 11am and 12pm in the Council Chambers. Here he will be discussing how this amazing collection came together, what his most treasured object is and the rarest part of the collection.
Matt Gladstone Executive Director for Place said: “The collection of toys and memorabilia included in the exhibition, May The Toys Be With You, will be a real treat for any Star Wars fans. We are extremely proud that Barnsley will be the first location in Yorkshire where people can see this incredible collection for free.
“If you are planning on coming to visit on our opening weekend and take part in all the exciting activities happening at Experience Barnsley, please do make sure you book your free space online to avoid disappointment.”
