Mapplewell Park has benefited from £70,000 of Section 106 funding, secured by Barnsley Council from the North Garner housing site. The funding has paved the way for new a tennis court to be built at the park which will be opened to residents on Monday 9 July at 10am.
The original tennis courts had fallen into disrepair over time, but due to recent funding, they have been relocated at Mapplewell Park, providing a new space for park users and community groups. The location of the old tennis courts has been landscaped to make the area look refreshed.
The new tennis court will be free to use and will provide the opportunity for residents to increase their participation in sports and physical activity.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “It’s great to see S106 money being spent in such a positive way. The improvements at Mapplewell Park provide long-term sustainability of a much-used community asset within the local area. We look forward to seeing residents using and enjoying these new local facilities.”
