Barnardo’s Young Carers Service was at Library @ The Lightbox as part of Young Carers Day on 15 March, to raise awareness of Young Carers, the challenges they face and the support they need.
Young carers can often feel very isolated and invisible in society, yet their role within the family is often so important.
Barnardo’s Young Carers Service, is commissioned by the council and is based at Priory Campus. They work directly with children and young people who have a caring role in their family. By providing the right help, Barnardo’s make sure that the young person doesn’t become responsible for inappropriate caring roles.
They were joined at the event by young people’s mental health services Compass Be and Chilypep, and a young carer.
The theme for the day this year was “Make time for Young Carers”, and the service spoke to many people about the support the service can offer to Young Carers and their families.
Visitors to the event also share their own experiences of being a carer and how they might have benefited from the service Barnardo’s can offer.
