Valentine’s Day is on the way and if you’re looking for the perfect date night, Barnsley town centre has you covered.
Whether you’re nervous about that first date, celebrating an anniversary or are just looking for a way to celebrate, here are five ideas to help you enjoy the perfect Valentine’s Day.
Go for a meal
The old classic. Take your partner to one of the best restaurants in town and you can’t go far wrong!

Do you and your partner struggle to agree on food? Look no further than Market Kitchen. Situated on the first floor of Barnsley Markets, here you’ll find food from around the world including Canadian poutine, classic Indian dishes and so much more!
Nearby at The Glass Works you’ll discover amazing dishes at The Salt House, Black and White and Falco. There’s also a range of well-known chains including Friday’s and Nandos.
Elsewhere in the town centre, meat lovers should check out Estabulo on Regent Street or Favela on Church Street. You can also find flavours from across Europe including Italian at Evoo, Turkish at Pasha and Polish at Passion Food Restaurant.
Go to the cinema
Is it cliché to suggest a cinema date on Valentine’s Day? Perhaps, but we don’t care, Barnsley town centre has everything you need for a cosy cinema night.
The family-run Parkway Cinema on Eldon Street is one of only a handful of cinemas in the country to still show 35mm and 70mm film, offering unique experiences in a historical setting.
Over the way at The Glass Works, the recently opened Cineworld features IMAX, 4DX and Screen X experiences if you’re looking for something extra.
Coffee date
Barnsley appears to be quickly becoming the coffee capital of the UK with a huge choice for coffee lovers including fantastic independent cafés such as The Cracked Teapot on Eldon Street, The Old George on Church Street and Gallaghers of Barnsley on The Victorian Arcade.
You can also find 200 Degrees, Caffé Botanico and Coffee Boy at The Glass Works.

Walk in the park
What’s more romantic than a stroll in the park?
In Barnsley town centre you’ll find the lovely Churchfield Peace Gardens near St Mary’s Church or just a 20 minute walk from the Glass Works is the beautiful Locke Park.
