Tuesday 7 November 2017: An important day in the social history of Barnsley and you can be part of it

Barnsley Council’s Director of Public Health, Julia Burrows, is looking for help from Barnsley residents to help produce ‘A Day in the life of…’ her 2017 annual report which is set to be published in early 2018.

‘A Day in the life of’ will allow a unique insight into the daily events that affect the physical and mental health of people who live in Barnsley. It will also provide the council’s Public Health team with a better understanding of what helps or hinders people to feel well.

To do this, the Director of Public Health is asking as many Barnsley residents as possible to fill in a short and simple diary sheet on Tuesday 7 November 2017.  ‘A day in the life of’ will not only help shape future health and social care services it could also form an important part of social history in Barnsley.

Cllr Jim Andrews, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health, said: “Over the course of one day, we’re looking for people to tell us how they feel and why that might be. We’d also love to hear from Barnsley  people about their ‘top tip’ for a healthy and happy life

“This is a brilliant opportunity for residents of Barnsley to contribute to the borough’s future in relation to public health. We want as many people as possible to complete the diary entries to gather as much information from one single day as possible.

“The Director of Public Health is required by law to produce an annual report every year and we always try to create this in a thought-provoking format.  We had great feedback from last year’s video where we heard from local people about their views on health.  I envisage this year’s report being very different but just as good!"

All diaries will be completely anonymous. We have ensured that entries can be submitted without anyone being identified. Further information for anybody interested in taking part, including how to get a diary sheet and how to submit it, will be given in late October.

You can read the request from the Director of Public health in the form of a letter here.
