Barnsley Council will roll out a scheme providing underfloor insulation to homes across the borough following the success of a trial in Worsbrough earlier this year.
The council will be working in partnership with national insulation company Miller Pattison to deliver the scheme, which will allow more residents to benefit from a warmer home heading into the cold winter months.
Privately owned or rented properties with an accessible cellar beneath ground floor rooms are eligible for the scheme and grants are available to meet the full installation cost for those on low incomes.
Councillor Tim Cheetham, Cabinet spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture), said: “Barnsley has a lot of terraced houses with low energy efficiency levels and, while a new boiler or loft insulation can help, draughts from cellars are a problem in a lot of older houses. These draughts rising through floorboards can really make homes feel cold during the winter months.
“I'd like to encourage residents to come forward and find out if they are eligible for the works, which aren’t disruptive and can be carried out quickly.
“Once completed they will deliver instant benefits, helping residents to reduce energy bills and keep homes warmer. Those who have already received the insulation works have been surprised by the difference it has made to their homes.”
David Oliver of Miller Pattison added: “To hear that the residents have felt such a big improvement in their homes from the works is fantastic. Now that the project is available across the borough, more properties can take advantage and get their homes ready for the winter months.”

Miller Pattison will also be visiting local areas and leaving information with residents over the coming months.
