Volunteers to make improvements at Watermeadows Park

As part of this year’s Volunteer Month, volunteers are encouraged to join the Twiggs - Clean and Tidy Team at Watermeadows Park on Tuesday 26 June, 9.30am to help create new wildlife habitats.

The beautiful Watermeadows Park, Water Hall Lane, Penistone is one of the area’s best-kept secrets, and volunteers are working hard to make improvements for visitors and wildlife. The creation of wildlife habitats will provide animals with food, water and shelter.

It is hoped that this work will be the start of exciting times for the park with the creation of a new ‘Friends of’ group. The Penistone Area Team and Councillors are considering the decision in partnership with the Barnsley Parks Team.

Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: "It is lovely to see so many fantastic events taking place across the borough for volunteering month. I would encourage anyone who can spare a little bit of time to go along to an event in their area. It is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and meet new people from your community."

Volunteers are asked to confirm their attendance by contacting the Penistone team on 01226 773012 or penistoneteam@barnsley.gov.uk.

The event has been organised as part of Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live campaign that encourages residents to find ways to make their community a place they can be proud of.
